The techie Siddharth (Dulquer Salmaan) tries to impress Meera (Ritu Varma), a typical girl next door. He decided to propose to her, egged on by his colleague and roommate Kallis (Rakshan). Yet she approves! Even Kallis enters a relationship with a friend of Meera, Shreya (Niranjani Ahathiyan).Things are going fine, and scamsters Siddharth and Kallis plan to turn a new leaf over and settle down with their girlfriends in Goa. Meanwhile, they are nabbed by Prathap Chakravarthi (Gautham Vasudev Menon), a cop who has been personally affected by their crimes.
Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal is winning romantic suspense with charismatic leads and moments of edge-of-the-seat. Desingh Periyasamy shows a passion for both the writing and the making of this content. While his idea is not modern, he succeeds in adding freshness with creative prose into the scenes.
He originally seems to be yet another wisecracking character we see in our films, but the director eventually turns him into a counter protagonist that is used to lighten the darker scenes efficiently. Also, this character's meltdown scene is packed with the perfect amount of humor to ensure things don't get too serious.
And then, in the second half, the game is a true heist tale, the change seems smooth. The parts of the heist have the perfect number of thrills and laugh too. The technical team is making sure the breezy mood is sustained.
The songs and score by Masala Coffee and Harshvardhan Rameshwar are peppy whilst KM Bhaskaran provides with his visuals the richness the script deserves. Actually, the longer running time here doesn't feel like a problem at all, though the first 15-20 minutes are rather underwhelming.
Also, the director doesn't try really hard to make us absolutely adore his characters, but lets his actors do the magic instead. He has actors in Dulquer and Ritu who can be endearing without effort and the two stars here are in such fine form. But it is Gautham Vasudev Menon who turns out to be the trump card for Desingh.
The portrayal of the director seems like a nod to the heroes of his own films, but it is only in the end that we know how beautifully Desingh has treated us with this character when we get a funny self-referential scene that provides the greatest laughs of the film.
