Housefull 4 (2019) Movie Review

The Housefull franchise ensures it brings the name further in the fourth version of chic and senseless comedy. In fact, it is more like the reverse, since it rewinds back to the 15th century for six hundred years. The plot opens up in 2019, and the location in London, where Harry (Akshay Kumar) is a hairdresser who has bouts of memory loss and flashes from his past life alternately.

His brothers are Max (Bobby Deol), and Roy (Riteish Deshmukh). Together they have the scheme to marry Kriti, Neha, and Pooja (respectively Kriti Sanon, Kriti Kharbanda, and Pooja Hegde), the three daughters of a billionaire, Thakral (Ranjeet), to be able to pay off the looted money of a mafia don Michael they have lost.

When the destination for the marriage is unintentionally set in India as Sitamgarh, the couples go over there and Harry encounters his past life friend Aakhri Pasta (Chunky Pandey) and remembers everything from that time. The three pairs of lovers-Rajkumar Bala Dev Singh (Akshay Kumar) and Princess Madhu (Kriti Sanon), Bangdu Maharaj (Riteish Deshmukh) and Princess Mala (Pooja Hegde), Angrakshak Dharamputra (Bobby Deol, yes the joke isn't lost here) and Princess Meena (Kriti Kharbanda) is killed, leaving their love stories incomplete as they get swept up in an evil scheme to destroy them.

Although Bala himself is 'Shaitaan ka Saala', he has laid a trap to marry Mala, so he can become Sitamgarh 's ruler. The biggest problem now is that the couples are jumbled up in 2019, and Bala (Akshay Kumar) wants to get the pairings straight and neither of them ends up with their sister or brother-in-law from their past lives.

So Housefull4 takes off with that central plot point in hand. Of course, this mission of setting things 'right' leads to galore confusion and a deluge of characters springing into and out of the narrative and into present life from their past lives. Owing to the general silliness, there is a sprinkling of mindless comic moments all around.

A particular declination of the movie is when Princess Meena pretends to be molested in persuading Dharamputra to marry her. Add to that, there are drag-and-draw sections that sound old.

The extremely noisy background score from the film (especially in the second half) and the CGI leaves plenty to be desired in the set time. And a running joke that doesn't actually fly on three pigeons named Neil, Nitin, and Mukesh.

Of the actresses, the longest role is played by Kriti Sanon and she pulls it off well. Kriti Kharbanda and Pooja Hegde are decreased to being props, owing to their restricted screen time.

Regardless to say, don't go looking for meaning in Housefull4 (but how, in the last scene, did the blood on the blue jacket of Rana Daggubatti magically disappear?). Kriti repeatedly asks, "Yeh sab kya ho raha hain?" in the last 30 minutes, a sentiment that viewers could echo.

Overall, Housefull4 ends up being a total mad caper. Which could appeal to you, if you're a fan of the comedy brand Housefull. But if you don't, then go ahead with caution.
