Robby Grewal's film, obviously inspired by real events, may have been a human/psychological drama that recognizes the mental-emotional upheavals of unsung heroes (spies). But the conventional direction is the combination of patriotism and spy thriller, which overlooks the human dimension.
Without succumbing to jingoism, Raasi rightly entered this territory. While RAW is not jingoist, it is a well-meaning but unpretentious film that does not catch your attention. It's a monotonous suit drama without passion and suspense.
With its share of tragic twists, the script may have looked interesting on paper. Weak execution, weak narrative, languid pace, and far-fetched prose make it difficult to accept. You value the narrative without meaning, but it is difficult to keep you involved.
The performances are worthwhile for John Abraham, Sikander Kher, and Jackie Shroff (the head of RAW). The style of Jackie is as ever distinguished. RAW 's got its moments but the edges are rough. You will suspend your mind if you are going to look at it. The climax is increasingly thrilling.
