On 13 September 2008, serial bombings rocked the city of Delhi killing 26 people and injuring more than 100.One week later, on the morning of 19 September 2008, a small alley in Delhi's Jamia Nagar was shaken by the sounds of gunfire exchanges. Officially known as Operation Batla House, this was Delhi Police Special Cell's shooting with the suspected terrorists responsible for the Delhi blasts in the now notorious Batla House.
This is perhaps one of the most contentious chapters of the Delhi Police as a number of questions were raised about arrests and killings, including that of a martyred meeting specialist and Delhi Police inspector Mohan Chand Sharma. The operation was carried out by then ACP and now DCP Sanjeev Kumar Yadav.
Said through the eyes of the upright ACP, Sanjay Kumar (John Abraham), Nikkhil Advani's 'Batla Home' is trying to balance the narrative without taking any obvious sides. Yet it delivers the right dose of patriotism with the tale of an honest ACP at its core. Paced as a thriller, much of the film remains true to the genre.
Batla House plays like a taut film with suspense entwined throughout, leaving you with nodes in the stomach. The beautifully choreographed action and chase scenes ensure a few moments on the edge of the seat. Where the Batla House vacillates in the second half, as the courtroom action slows down further.
Despite some clap worthy dialogs, they 're making it there. And some of the complexities and nuances are being filtered down. Nora Fatehi's dance number seems to blend into an otherwise bleak plot, even though her character is well-woven.
