Deepika Padukone starrer Chhapaak is the latest victim of piracy website Tamilrockers. Deepika plays an acid attack survivor in the Meghna Gulzar directorial. The film hit screens on January 10 alongside Ajay Devgn starrer Tanhaji. Chhapaak is inspired by the life of Laxmi Agarwal who is an acid attack survivor. The film also stars Vikrant Massey.

In spite of the typical disclaimer that is now appearing in almost every film at the beginning of the day, Chhapaak is based on a true story of acid attack survivors and activist Laxmi Agarwal ("every resemblance to people living or dead is totally coincidental" etc.).
In the movie, one day when acid is thrown on her face, Malti's (the Deepika Padukone) life changes. Malti was 19 and Basheer Khan was 30 a.k.a. Babbu, a friend of his father. His motif: her romantic opportunities were overlooked and her association with a child in a neighboring school was evident.
The film co-written by Atika Chohan, directed by Meghna Gulzar, is far from the traditional high-tone melodrama. The style of Chhapaak's account is primarily documentary and leaves Malti's horror to work on the emotions of the viewer.
