When Ayan Ranjan (Ayushmann Khurana), a town-born IPS officer in charge of the Lal gaon Police Station in India 's capital, realizes that he will have to handle much more than he meets the focus soon enough.At one point, in one of the opening scenes, he tells his wife Aditi (Isha Talwar) exasperatedly on the phone, "It's like the wild wild west." Having studied in Delhi 's St. Stephens and previously lived in Europe, Ayan is clearly at odds with the mentalities that accost him right from the word go at Lal gaon.
Even as he deals with the heavy impact of caste prejudice and emerging social inequality, he stumbles over the news of three girls who have been missing in a nearby factory for the past two days.
His colleagues, Bhramdutt and Jatav (Manoj Pahwa and Kumud Mishra) are telling him that the girls are likely to appear. But when two of them are found hanging from trees the next morning it confirms that something has gone seriously wrong.
There is nevertheless constant pressure to close the case as soon as possible. "Aap logon ka transfer ho jata hai, humein maar diya jata hain," says the character of Pahwa as he attempts to persuade Ayan to sign off on the case file.
As the commanding police officer, Ayan is dedicated to getting to the bottom of this, refusing to give up despite barriers and threats wandering in nearly every corner.
