Annie (Athiya Shetty) has rejected a long list of candidates arranged by her parents on the condition that she only marries someone who has settled outside the country. So not only can she live there but also post photos on social media to make her friends jealous of her.On the other hand, Pushpinder (Nawzuddin) is so anxious to get married now that he's willing to settle for anyone. However, his mother (Vibha Chibber) hopes to marry her son off against a fat dowry only in due course, she is persuaded by Annie 's aunt (Karuna Pandey) to consider Pushpinder as an option to marry, as he fits the bill of living outside India. But will he?
Motichoor Chaknachoor is seeking to build on the small-town setting and the regular combination of eccentric characters we've always seen in Northern India movies. So you have two sets of joint families and much of their time seems to be divided between consuming copious quantities of jalebi and kachoris and trying to find the bride and bridegroom needed for their respective offsprings.
While it might have been intended as a quirky comedy of a pair of so-called misfits, the tedious chain of events in the film makes it a tiring watch after a point. So although it has tried to be a psychological commentary, many of the dialogs so situations are controversial.
There are few genuinely amusing moments on the plus side. Throughout some of the dramatic and emotional scenes, Nawazuddin shines. Athiya Shetty puts on a sincere effort and impressively pulls off some scenes. Karuna Pandey makes an impact as the aunt and Vibha Chibber as the mother. The music of the film is equally enjoyable.
Overall, Motichoor Chaknachoor comes off as a mixed bag leaving much to be desired in the department of execution.
