Four More Shots Please: Season 2 Review

Four girls meet in Istanbul after four months of Siddhi (Maanvi Gagroo) panic calling Umang (Bani J) to grumble about her loneliness. This time, they vow to be on each other's side through the absolute lows and highs of life, no matter what.

Damini (Sayani Gupta) hit the writer's block and is struggling to find the motivation to finish her book. She also has a relationship with Jeh (Prateik Babbar). Anjana (Kirti Kulhari), on the other hand, is getting cold feet because of her boyfriend Arjun (Ankur Rathee), who started behaving like an ideal husband.

Umang learns about the mental deterioration of Samara (Lisa Ray) in public via social media. Extremely disturbed by the video, the helpless Umang is trying to reach Samara again. Siddhi was not able to overcome a heartbreak caused by the abrupt departure of her fiance Mihir (Rajeev Siddhartha).

What we like about these four women this season is that they have been more compassionate of each other and understand each other's problems even better. They give each other space and support needed for progressive womanhood.

Another wonderful thing about Four More Shots, please! Season 2 is that, unlike the first part, it does not show its women protagonists in need of men to solve their problems, nor does it endorse the hegemonic belief that women are co-dependent, unsafe and weak.

But there is also a desire for an easy narrative of the status quo of women in the show. That's why it's falling apart so fast. Their struggles don't exactly resonate with the way they should, because these women seem to skip the deeply entrenched gender norms so easily that it makes us wonder — Do women really have it that easy?

The show never really dives deep into Umang's true and intense struggle to be a lesbian from a small town and deals with her sexuality only on the surface. Another glaring problem I have with the show is Maanvi Gagroo's character as Siddhi, a super-rich and spoiled woman in her late twenties, who consciously internalizes her confusion and oppression of a man she works with.

In addition, Damini, a deadly serious and ferociously outspoken journalist who has been fired from her own company for writing a controversial article in the last season, is unemployed, yet living a comfortable and luxurious life that is a bit too much for her stomach.
